Dennis Reigle, new director of Academic and Career Development (ACD), will lead the Durham, NC team to attract and retain talented individuals to the CPA profession.
Reigle was previously a managing partner with Arthur Andersen LLP, responsible for partner matters and human resources, as well as being in charge of Andersen’s recruiting and university relations efforts and the Andersen Foundation. Additionally, Reigle previously served as a part-time career coach for students in the MBA program at Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management before joining the Institute.
New team members reporting to Reigle include Heather Bunning, senior manager of education and recruitment, Michelle Phillips, manager of education and recruitment, Danielle Grant, coordinator of education and recruitment, Ostine Swan, CPA, senior manager of diversity, work/life and women’s initiatives, Misean Reed, manager of diversity, work/life and women’s initiatives, and Elizabeth DeBragga, coordinator of diversity, work/life and women’s initiatives. Susan Pierson supports the entire team as its administrative assistant.
Bunning comes to the AICPA with almost 10 years of experience at the Indiana CPA Society where she was the manager of student initiatives and public relations. In her role with the Institute, she is responsible for the Academic & Career Development Team’s programs and projects that enhance accounting education and attract talented individuals to become CPAs.
Phillips comes to the AICPA with a background in accounting where she worked in both public accounting as well as industry before joining the team in November 2006. Phillips’ commitment to promoting the accounting profession will be invaluable in her new role with the ACD team.
Grant completed her master’s degree in organizational communication at North Carolina State University in May 2007. She is interested in helping connect students and educators with resources that advance career awareness and professional excellence. Previously, Grant served as information officer for the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
Before joining the AICPA in March 2007, Swan had been the director of internal audit for North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance since 1992. From 1971 to 1990, Ostine lived in Bermuda, where she served as a senior audit manager with Deloitte and later as the Inspector of Companies for the Bermuda Government Ministry of Finance.
Reed was previously with the North Carolina Association of CPAs and worked both in CPE and communications during her seven-year tenure. Most recently, she worked as the public relations specialist focusing largely on financial literacy, student recruitment, media relations, community outreach, and volunteerism.
As a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, DeBragga’s projects with women and young people cultivated an interest in working with diversity and women’s initiatives state-side. Prior to joining the AICPA in February 2007, she was a program coordinator at the Duke Center for International Development.
Reigle will lead his team on numerous initiatives including the PhD faculty shortage issue, AP accounting, minority, women and family initiatives to name a few. Each team member will play a role in maintaining responsibility for the ACD team’s programs and projects that enhance accounting education and attract talented individuals to become CPAs.
In addition, the team will actively work to recruit minorities into the profession and enhance their upward mobility; enthusiastically work to enhance the upward mobility of women in the profession, and help all CPAs balance their work, family, and personal lives through the promotion of innovative and flexible employment policies.
The team is committed to providing the highest quality products, services, and support possible in the promotion of the CPA profession through its various education and recruitment team initiatives.
